Let the aroma of orange blossoms and passion fruit take you away to your tropical paradise. This nectar-like elixir will hit your palate like a tsunami of citrus and honey & the dry malt finish will force you to dive back into refreshing waves of IPA goodness.

Pacific Northwest hops are right at home in this NW-style red ale: woody, spicy, piney and citrusy. They also enjoy playing against the lush backdrop of a blend of pale, carapils, caramel & chocolate malts.

Brewed just like in Cologne: German pilsner & wheat malts, German Magnum hops for bittering, Hersbrucker hops for aroma & a spicy note. Fermented slow & cool with an authentic Kölsch yeast strain brought back from our brewmaster's studies in Berlin.

Ponderosa's take on a classic Mexican lager: This thirst-quenching brew has a clean malt bill with a splash of corn to give it a light but sturdy body. German hops bring the lightly spicy character that the judicious splash of lime peel accentuates to make this the beer you will want to quaff all year long.
5.0% ABV, 30 IBU
Inspired from a traditional North England style brown ale, our Bellamah is bright & mahogany in color. Caramelized sugar and toffee will fill your nose & the roasted malts give the brown a rich dynamic flavor, finishing with a subtle dark chocolate bitterness.

Take a traditional Belgian-style witbier, brewed with unmalted wheat for taste and body, spiced with a gentle addition of coriander and give it a Ponderosa twist. Blood orange and lemon peel replace the traditional valencia sweet and bitter orange peel to give this beer a bright and juicy character.

A multiple gold medal-winning Hoppy Lager, our Italian Pilsner is based on a classic German Pilsner with a heavy dosing of German Hersbrucker and Relax hops during dry hopping. The intense hop aroma is spicy, lightly dank and reminiscent of red berries.
4.7% ABV, 25 IBU
This dark Czech-style lager is made with 100% Czech Saaz hops, which has soft, spicy, earthy, and woodsy flavors that compliment the caramel, chocolate, and coffee notes from the crystal and roasted malts.
5.5% ABV, 18 IBU
We took our American Wheat Ale and infused it with red raspberry puree to make this easy drinking, slightly tart and fruity glass of happiness.

We brewed this Oatmeal Stout with a twist: Instead of using an ale yeast to ferment this black beauty, we used our house lager yeast and fermented at warmer temperatures. That's why it is dubbed a steam stout. With a silky body from using oats, this beer has subtle ester fruit flavors to go along with the chocolate, coffee, and roasted notes.
We’re fortunate to have one of the most accomplished brewers in the country running our breweries.
Alan Taylor was named one of the nation’s best “unsung brewers” by All About Beer magazine in 2015, and we couldn’t agree more. Alan caught the brewing bug while in college, and it followed him to Germany, where he was studying linguistics.
Fortunately for us, he switched tracks and instead went to brewing school in Berlin. When he returned, he worked for a number of larger breweries, including Full Sail, Gordon-Biersch and Widmer Brothers, before joining our team.
Taylor’s breadth of experience is reflected in the quality you find in the beers he brews, whether he’s making a sticky American IPA or a delicate pale lager.
Ira Strain-Bey III joined our team as Head Brewer in 2022 and is helming our 7 bbl brewhouse. Ira has 10+ years of professional brewing experience in our fair city of Albuquerque.
Ira likes to bring an enjoyable experience to the people. It doesn't matter what beer style as long as folks are having a good time.
Shannon Downey has been helping out in the brewery for a number of years, washing kegs, making sure the fermentations are progressing correctly, and doing all the little things that pop up in the brewery.
You can also spot Shannon behind the bar on busy nights. She grooves on our dark lagers, porters and stouts.
Over a hundred years ago, Albuquerque and the surrounding area looked much different than it does today. The hills near and far along the Sandia Mountain Range were populated with Ponderosa pines as far as the eye could see, with railway lines being built throughout the mountainside to transport the heavy loads of timber to what now is known as the Sawmill District.
After decades of logging, land wars, and urban growth, the Sawmill area of Albuquerque was put out of business in the late 1980s and remained largely empty. In 1996 the Sawmill Community Land Trust was formed and set its intentions to clean up the ecological damage from the sawmills that had occurred over the past century.
After many years of environmental restoration and rebuilding, the SCLT succeeded in revitalizing the area, bringing new life back to this once vibrant area bordering Old Town. With the help of the SCLT, Ponderosa Brewing Company was able to build our brewery right in the heart of the Sawmill District at an important time in its revitalization.
Ponderosa Brewing Company was born September 2nd, 2014 with a lot of help from local businesses, local breweries, friends, and family.
We welcome you to relax and feel at home here at Ponderosa. Whether sitting on our large patio, enjoying conversation at the bar, watching the game, or having an intimate dinner in one of our cozy booths, Ponderosa has something for everyone.
At Ponderosa Brewing, we’ll always have a cold beer and warm welcome waiting for you!
